Project:
Speakeasy Casino
Owner: Mountaineer RaceTrack and Casino
Client: MTR Gaming Corp.
Design Architect: DRS Architects, Pittsburgh
Project Phases: Concept Design through Completion
Project
Background:
An existing destination, The Mountaineer RaceTrack and Casino wanted
to create an over-the-top experience for its guests. The concept would
create a place that is a “must see”.
Challenge:
What is the best way to develop a new themed concept when your entire
organization is focused on operating a successful casino? That’s
the challenge MTR Gaming Corp. was up against. They needed a fresh approach
on how to integrate a realistic 1920’s industrial and nightclub
theme into the constraints of their existing facility. The original
idea was to create a free “show” component that would occupy
a small amount of casino floor space.
Solution:
MTR Gaming Corp. contracted It’s Alive Co. to provide complete
Concept Design Management Consulting for the creation and adaptation
of a realistic 1920’s Chicago theme. IAC developed a Concept Package
which became the “style guide” for the remaining phases
of project development including exterior and interior guest experience,
story line, character development, integration with the existing building,
and show development. IAC worked in conjunction with the architects
on a concept design package for the architecture including exterior
period landscaping, area master planning, exterior wall designs, and
preliminary facility impacts.
